Siikasalmi Scenic Cruise – Experience the Most Beautiful Lake Views of Mikkeli!
Join a cruise from Mikkeli Harbor and enjoy a journey through the stunning scenery of Lake Saimaa. The route passes under the Savilahti highway bridges and along the shore of Kenkävero. As the 19th-century pavilion of Lamposaari peeks through the trees on the rocky shore, the cruise continues south of the Kirkonvarkaus Bridge to Annilanselkä, where lakeside villas and the waterfront houses of Mikkeli’s housing fair area rise along the shores.
At the southern end of Annilanselkä lies the historic Surmansalmi, a reminder of the 18th-century Battle of Porrassalmi. Upon reaching the strait, the ship signals with a sound and continues its journey to Kyyhkylänselkä, where the rich lakefront cottage landscape unfolds with traditional Finnish saunas by the shore.
As the ship approaches the Siikasalmi open channel, you can see how people once traveled to Mikkeli only by rowing through a narrow passage. With industrialization in the 19th century, the strait was gradually widened to accommodate ship traffic. The vessel passes through Siikasalmi, turns around near the Kello pier, and returns to Mikkeli Harbor.
